Kitchen Hood Suppression Service in Indio

In the last twelve months Desert Fire completed kitchen suppression work at 107 Locations in Indio. At least 42 were restaurants, and school and church kitchens accounted for at least 14 more. We also served hotel kitchens, food counters inside shops and gas stations, and kitchens in medical and public buildings. Many Location names do not say what they are, so these figures are minimums.

Semi-annual hood system inspections

Riverside County Fire Department covers fire prevention in Indio under contract with the city. Commercial cooking suppression systems are inspected semi-annually under NFPA 96 and the manufacturer’s requirements. At each visit we check:

  • Agent cylinder, cartridge and pressure.
  • Nozzles and caps over every appliance, and the piping that feeds them.
  • The detection line, with fusible links replaced when due.
  • The pull station and the gas or electric shut-off.
  • The tag, and a written report you can hand to your fire inspector.

What we see most in Indio

Busy restaurant lines change often, and a fryer moved down the line or a new charbroiler squeezed in leaves an appliance outside the nozzle it was paired with. School cafeterias and church kitchens run on a calendar: heavy use during the school year or around events, then weeks of nothing. That is where we find blow-off caps missing, links overdue and shut-offs nobody has tested. Small hoods over counters in convenience stores and gas stations are easy to forget, but they need the same inspection as a full restaurant line.

Nozzle rework and replacements

When appliances are added, removed or moved, we re-work the nozzles to match. For new kitchens and remodels we design and install new systems, and we replace older systems that fall short of UL 300.

Common questions

Our school kitchen is closed all summer. Can we skip an inspection?

No, the semi-annual schedule still applies. Booking one of the inspections just before classes start means the kitchen reopens with a current tag.

We have a small hood over a hot food counter in our store. Does it need the same service?

Yes. A suppression system over commercial cooking is inspected on the same schedule whatever its size.

Call and a technician will come out to service your property.
